dear diary,

today i went to the OB to confirm my pregnancy.

pregnancy confirmed.

thirteen weeks and two days. i got tons of blood drawn (7 viles) a urine test and two ultrasounds. (first the OB did one, then i was sent to get another for a genetic screening.) i heard the heartbeat, too.

when i saw my baby (fetus) for the first time on the tv screen, tears ran down the side of my face. it's hard to believe that's inside of me and that's my baby. what a trip! the doc sent me home with some good pictures.

i guess i get another ultrasound in 5 weeks. the boyfriend will come with me next time. i want him to experience it. i think it will make this pregnancy seem more real to him.

we both still can't believe i'm pregnant. it seems to me the chips weren't stacked in our favor: him 38, me 36, and me not exactly being a "pillar of health" (in fact, i am quite the opposite).

now that i know this is really happening, i want to tell me parents as soon as possible. part of me is worried because they are old school and they'll be really sad that i got knocked up before marriage. but the other part of me thinks they'll get over it quickly because they are going to be grandparents. i know they've wanted that for some time now. we are visiting them over the 4th of july. i think we need to tell them then, in person.

i'm not sure when the boyfriend and i will get married. i do hope sooner rather than later. i'll breach the subject with him this weekend.

oh, and i just found out that one of my friends is just shy of 3 months pregnant. (she's due on 1/3/10.) this will be her second child. i have another friend who is due with her 2nd in november. my due date is december 15. merry christmas!

i have an annual exam (about 10 years overdue) scheduled for monday...with a new doctor. not looking forward to it, but somehow most of my fears have vanished.

this is all just so surreal...
